Go to the nearest hospital emergency department or call 911 if: swelling is making it hard to breathe or swallow, swelling is spreading toward the eye or down the neck, bleeding won't slow after 15–20 minutes of firm pressure, or the injury involved a hit to the head (dizziness, vomiting, confusion) or a possible broken jaw. A dentist can't safely manage these in an office chair.
Sports & Playground Mouth-Injury Guide
Applewood Heights is full of kids on bikes on the Applewood Trail, teens playing for school teams, and weekend games at local parks. Most mouth injuries happen far from the dental chair, so what a parent or coach does in the first half hour matters most. Pick what happened for step-by-step instructions.

Knocked-out adult tooth? Start the timer the moment it happens because the best chance of saving it is getting to a dentist within about 30–60 minutes.

Getting to Us from Applewood Heights
From Bloor & Dixie
Head south on Dixie Road to Dundas Street East and turn right (west). We're at 918 Dundas St E, Suite 208. Just east of the Mississauga Chinese Centre at 888 Dundas, which makes a handy landmark if you're rushing.
From Applewood Hills (Burnhamthorpe & Tomken)
Take Tomken Road south all the way to Dundas and turn right (west). You're passing through the original Applewood Heights streets and there's no highway to merge onto.
By MiWay Bus
MiWay Route 1 Dundas runs along Dundas Street past our building. From the Bloor–Dixie area, connect on Route 5 Dixie south to Dundas, then transfer to Route 1. Teens heading over after school can check live times in the Transit or MiWay apps.
Dental Emergencies in Kids and Teens: What Parents Should Know
Children's mouths behave differently from adults', and some of the most important emergency signs show up days or weeks after a fall. Here's what we watch for in the families we see from Applewood Heights, Applewood Hills and the streets around Applewood Heights Secondary.
A tooth turning grey after a fall
A front tooth that darkens weeks after a bump may mean the nerve inside was damaged. It often doesn't hurt, so it's easy to ignore. Book an appointment. Some teeth can be monitored, but others need treatment such as a root canal before infection sets in.
Swelling around a baby molar
A pimple-like bump on the gum or a puffy cheek near a baby tooth usually means infection. Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth growing underneath, so it's worth treating promptly rather than waiting for it to fall out.
Teen wisdom tooth pain
Older teens often feel pressure and swelling at the back of the jaw as wisdom teeth try to come in. If it's hard to open wide or there's a bad taste, call us. We can examine and offer wisdom teeth removal when it's needed.
A chipped front tooth before photo day
Small chips are rarely painful, but sharp edges cut the tongue and larger breaks can expose the inner tooth. Many chips can be repaired in one visit with tooth-coloured dental bonding.
Why Applewood Heights Families Call Us First
💳Direct billing, so you're not paying up front
When your child has just hurt a tooth, the last thing you need is a large bill to submit yourself. We bill your dental plan directly, and you pay only the portion it doesn't cover.
🍁CDCP for kids and teens
We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan, which covers eligible children under 18. We'll confirm coverage and explain any difference before treatment.
🔬A microscope for small teeth and big injuries
Children's teeth are small and a traumatized front tooth has little room for error. Magnification lets us see fine cracks and treat the nerve precisely, giving an injured tooth its best chance of being saved.
🫧Guided Biofilm Therapy after the emergency
Once the emergency is handled, our GBT cleaning uses warm water, air and a fine powder instead of heavy scraping. It's gentle for nervous kids and cleans around braces well.
🏡30+ years caring for Mississauga families
Dr. Caminschi has practised for over three decades. Parents, children and grandparents can all be seen in one office, so an emergency visit can become your family's dental home.
🗓️Saturday and evening hours
We're open Saturdays 8:00 AM–3:00 PM (except long weekends) for morning-game injuries, and until 8:00 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays for after-school problems.

Applewood Heights Emergency Dental FAQs
My child knocked out a baby tooth. Should I put it back in?
No. Unlike adult teeth, baby teeth should not be put back in the socket. Doing so can damage the adult tooth developing underneath. Control the bleeding with gauze, keep the tooth to show us if you like, and call to have the area checked for fragments or damage.
How fast do I need to get to the dentist with a knocked-out adult tooth?
As fast as you safely can. A tooth that goes back in within about 30–60 minutes has the best chance of reattaching. Keep it moist and ideally back in the socket, otherwise in cold milk and call us on the way.
Is Caminschi Family Dentistry actually in Applewood Heights?
We're on Dundas Street East between Tomken and Dixie, along the southern edge of Applewood Heights. For most homes between Dundas and Burnhamthorpe it's a few minutes' drive, with no highway required.
Does CDCP cover my child's emergency visit?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan covers emergency exams and many urgent treatments for eligible members, including children under 18. Some services need pre-approval, and the plan pays a set fee that may not cover the full cost. We'll confirm what's covered and explain any difference before treatment.
Can you see my child if they're not already a patient?
Yes. New patients with emergencies are welcome. Call so we can find the soonest time and prepare for your visit.
Do you bill my dental insurance directly?
Yes. We bill most dental plans and the Canadian Dental Care Plan directly, so you only pay the portion your plan doesn't cover. We'll tell you that amount before treatment, which is one less thing to worry about while your child is hurting.
