Go to a hospital emergency department or call 911 if: swelling affects your breathing or swallowing or spreads toward the eye or neck, you have a fever with facial swelling, bleeding won't stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure (especially if you take a blood thinner), or a fall has injured your jaw or head.

Crown, Bridge, Denture or Implant Problem? What to Do Right Now

Markland Wood is one of Toronto's most established neighbourhoods. Many homes were built in the early 1960s, and many residents have lived here for decades. Along with that comes years of dental work: crowns, bridges, dentures and implants. When one of them fails, the right first step is different for each. Choose yours:

Every mouth is different. Call us and we'll advise on your situation.

Living in Toronto, Seeing a Dentist in Mississauga: Your Coverage Explained

We're asked this often by patients from Markland Wood, Eringate and the Sherway area: does crossing into Peel change anything? For dental care in a private office, it doesn't. Here's how each program works for a Toronto resident.

ProgramWho it's forCan you use it with us?
Private / workplace dental planEmployees, retirees with pension benefits, and their familiesYes. Plans cover you the same wherever you live, and we work with most dental plans.
Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)Canadian residents without dental insurance and with adjusted family net income under $90,000 including seniors 65+Yes. CDCP is federal, so it works at participating dentists anywhere in Canada. Emergency exams are covered; some services need pre-approval.
Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP)Low-income Ontario seniors 65+ with no other dental benefits except CDCPOSDCP care is provided through designated clinics, most often public health dental clinics. If you're enrolled, Toronto Public Health can direct you to one. If you also have CDCP, you can use CDCP with us.
OHIPAll Ontario residentsOHIP generally doesn't cover dental treatment in a dental office, whether you live in Toronto or Mississauga.

Programs change. Check your CDCP status in your My Service Canada Account, and ask us about any out-of-pocket cost before treatment. We give full fee disclosure up front.

Urgent Care, Hospital or Dentist? West Etobicoke Options

Queensway Health Centre Urgent Care

150 Sherway Drive, open daily from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. Good for non-life-threatening injuries. For example, a cut lip or chin from a fall that may need stitches. It isn't a full emergency department, and it can't repair teeth.

A full emergency department

For the symptoms above: trouble breathing or swallowing trouble, spreading swelling, a jaw injury or uncontrolled bleeding you should go to the nearest hospital emergency department or call 911.

Caminschi Family Dentistry

For the tooth itself: pain, infection, broken teeth, crowns, bridges, dentures and implants. Emergency appointments are available the same day whenever the schedule allows.

Before Your Emergency Visit: Tell Us About These

A few details make emergency treatment safer, especially for older adults. Mention them when you call:

  • Blood thinners Tell us which ones you are on..
  • Heart valve replacements, joint replacements, or a history of heart infection Some patients need antibiotics before certain procedures.
  • Bone-strengthening medications for osteoporosis. These can affect how the jaw heals after extractions.
  • Diabetes Infections can progress faster and heal more slowly, so we treat swelling promptly.
  • A full list of your medications: a photo of your pill bottles is fine.

Why West Etobicoke Patients Cross the Creek to See Us

A microscope for older dental work

When an old crown fails, the problem is often a hairline crack, decay under the edge, or a root canal done years ago. Magnification lets us see what the naked eye misses and decide whether a crown or tooth can be saved.

Direct billing, including retiree plans

We bill most dental plans directly, including pension and retiree benefits, so you pay only your share at the visit. Toronto address? It makes no difference.

CDCP for seniors

Many retirees lost their dental benefits when they left work. We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan and bill it directly, explaining any out-of-pocket cost up front.

Guided Biofilm Therapy around implants, crowns and bridges

Our GBT cleaning uses a fine powder and warm water instead of metal scraping. It's gentle on sensitive gums and well suited to cleaning around implants and restorations, helping protect the work you've invested in.

30+ years of restorative experience

Dr. Caminschi has more than three decades of practice repairing and replacing crowns, bridges and dentures, plus restorative and implant care, with sedation available for anxious patients.

Hundreds of loyal, long-time patients

Like Markland Wood itself, our practice is built on people who stay. We're rated 4.9 stars on Google, and hundreds of loyal patients have trusted us with their care for years.

Markland Wood & West Etobicoke Emergency Dental FAQs

Can I see a Mississauga dentist if I live in Toronto?

Yes. Dental care isn't limited by city, and you don't need a referral. Private dental plans and the Canadian Dental Care Plan work the same whether you live in Etobicoke or Mississauga.

My crown came off. Is that an emergency?

If it's painful or the tooth underneath is broken, call us the same day. If it doesn't hurt, it can usually wait a day or two but keep the crown safe, avoid chewing on that side, and don't use household glue to reattach it.

Can you fix a broken denture the same day?

Call us as soon as it breaks and bring all the pieces. We'll assess whether it can be repaired and how long it will take, and we'll make sure your mouth is healthy and free of sore spots. Please don't glue it yourself. Household glue can damage the denture and irritate your gums.

Will CDCP cover my emergency visit as a senior?

If you're enrolled in CDCP, emergency exams are covered and many emergency treatments are too; some need pre-approval. The share CDCP pays depends on your adjusted family net income, and we'll explain any cost to you before treatment.

Is the Queensway urgent care centre a good place for a toothache?

The Urgent Care Centre at 150 Sherway Drive treats non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, but it can't repair teeth. For a toothache, call a dentist. For serious swelling or breathing difficulty, go to a full emergency department or call 911.

Will you bill my retiree or pension dental plan directly?

Yes. We bill most private dental plans directly, including retiree and pension benefits, as well as the Canadian Dental Care Plan. You pay only the portion your plan doesn't cover, and we'll explain it before treatment.
